Notice: Boat Rentals Affected by Stabilization Project & Lake Levels
Residents, please note that the Association will be deciding whether to rent paddleboats, etc. on Stonebridge Lake on a day-by-day basis. Please check with staff at the Beach & Tennis Club when you arrive to confirm if rentals are in session. The lake level has been changing recently and is often too low for rentals. For the safety of our residents and the protection of Association property, we cannot risk any people or boats becoming stuck or overturning.
The Association has touched base with the City of McKinney to confirm the reason for the changing lake level. It is directly related to the ongoing stabilization project off of Glen Oaks Drive. The City notes:
"With respect to the lake level, we are worried about erosion during storms. To minimize the chance for erosion during high lake levels, we have been opening the valve before storms and closing it again shortly after...we will judge our actions based on how much rain is supposed to fall. We want to leave as much water in the lake as possible for the summer months.”
Also, residents, please note: sometimes in the area of Stonebridge Lake during the summer, you may notice a strange smell in the air. This smell often occurs during the months of July-September. It is caused by several contributing factors: the release of sulfur/methane gas from the bottom of the lake, as well as an overgrowth of a single cell algae (phytoplankton). Warm, summer weather encourages this gas release, as well as algae overgrowth. We are currently treating the lake for the algae overgrowth, a process which takes time. Stonebridge Ranch staff is also investigating alternatives to hopefully help alleviate the smell in the future.
