Compliance Corner: Storage Structure Guidelines

Thinking about adding a shed or storage structure to your property? Before purchasing one, please review the community guidelines below. Planning ahead, and receiving approval before installation can help you avoid unexpected changes or expenses.

Storage Structure Guidelines

• The structure must be located behind a six-foot privacy fence or required metal fence and may not exceed eight feet at its tallest point.
• The total area may not exceed 120 square feet. Two side-by-side structures are permitted if their combined area does not exceed 120 square feet.
• Metal storage sheds are not permitted.
• Structures may be constructed of wood, plastic, resin, masonry, or a combination of these materials.
• Exterior colors and roofing must match or complement the home.
• Roofs must have simple gabled ends. Lean-to-style sheds are not permitted.
• The structure must be at least five feet from any side or rear property line and at least five feet from any fence.
• On lots adjacent to a golf course or common area, the structure must be located in a side yard that does not border the golf course or common area.
• Homes adjacent to a golf course, greenbelt, park, or other open space must maintain at least 10 feet of clearance from the rear fence or property line.

What to Include With Your Application

Please submit the following information for review:

1. A scaled site plan showing the proposed location, existing structures, property lines, and required setbacks.
2. The dimensions and design of the proposed structure, including a construction drawing or manufacturer’s specifications.
3. A description or sample of the proposed materials and colors, along with the materials and colors of the existing home.

Please wait until you receive written approval before purchasing or installing the structure. Approval considers the complete proposal—including its location, design, materials, colors, roofing, and setbacks—not size alone.
